Fairy tales have their origins in oral and written traditions.
Frenchman Charles Perrault in the seventeenth century was the pioneer in fairy tales and wrote famous tales like Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Puss in Boots.
The German Brothers Grimm wrote in the early nineteenth century their versions for over two hundred short stories such as Rapunzel, The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats, Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella and Snow White among others.
Throughout the nineteenth century the Danish Hans Christian Andersen spent much of his life writing his famous children's stories: The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, The Princess and the Pea, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, The Emperor's New Clothes and The Snow Queen and many more.
